The Newell DIstrict 4-H Beef Show and Sale in Brooks, Alberta is set to sell off its donor steer, Orion, to raise money for three separate charities on Monday.

The money raised will go towards Full Circle Foundation of Wellness, Heart Beats Children’s Society of Calgary and the Children’s Wish Network.

Orion was raised by the South Slope 4-H Beef Club this year.

The steer was donated by Janzen Ranches, while Shur-gain and Trouw Nutrition provided the feed for the steer.

Beef Committee Chairman Matt Janzen says they were glad to be able to be a part of it.

“We thought we could donate and help a few organizations out,” says Janzen.

He says it is really important all of the 4-H members from the district take part in this program.

”You learn to do by doing and by giving back to your community that are supporting you as a 4-H member.”

He adds the event wouldn’t exist without the support of the community.

“We have great local support in our community and we’re very thankful to be in this area.“

The show starts at 9 a.m., with the sale going at 6 p.m. at Silver Sage Community Corral.

Janzen is encouraging for everyone to come down have dinner and take in the sale.

“Orion is just an outstanding steer and we are hoping everyone can come down and help us out.“
