The Canadian Beef Industry Award for Outstanding Research and Innovation is presented by the Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) each year to recognize a researcher or scientist whose work has contributed to advancements in the competitiveness and sustainability of the Canadian beef industry.
A new research centre aimed at connecting research and farmers has been awarded to Olds College by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council.
A research project at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Research Station in Lacombe, Alberta is evaluating Field Pea and Faba Bean germ plasm.
On average nationally, the BCRC receives approximately 18% of the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-off, and plays a key role in leveraging additional funding for beef cattle research. Recognizing this, the Council works to ensure the highest return on investment possible for industry contributions to research through ongoing consultation with other provincial and national funding organizations.
Breanne Tidemann, a PhD student at the University of Alberta, and a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is study alternatives to herbicides in an effort to mitigate the threat of herbicide resistance.
