Longueuil, Que. (Rural Roots Canada) – The federal government is investing almost $180,000 to help women farmers in Quebec and eastern Ontario develop their business and leadership skills.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada announced the funding for the Fédération des Agricultrices du Québec (FAQ) through the AgriDiversity Program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
The project will provide women farmers with personalized support and access to experts in financial planning, marketing, legal services and agricultural advisory services.
It will also offer online and in-person workshops covering farm financial management, funding opportunities, communication, conflict management and leadership. The sessions will provide opportunities for participants to network and share experiences.
“Supporting women farmers in pursuing entrepreneurship and other leadership roles is an investment in the future of agriculture,” Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Heath MacDonald said in a statement. “By helping women farmers build their skills, grow their businesses and take on leadership roles, we are strengthening the sector and ensuring it can benefit from the full range of talent and perspectives across Canada.”
FAQ president Véronique Guizier said the funding would help women farmers access the resources and networks they need to fully participate in the agricultural economy.
The United Nations has designated 2026 the International Year of the Woman Farmer, recognizing women’s roles across agrifood systems, from production to trade.
