Abbotsford, B.C. (Rural Roots Canada) – The BC Agriculture Council (BCAC) has launched a new scholarship aimed at helping young people pursue careers in agriculture.

The BC Young Farmers Scholarship, developed through the council’s BC Young Farmers Committee, will support British Columbians aged 19 to 40 enrolled in agriculture-related post-secondary education or training programs.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents studying at an accredited Canadian institution. Preference will be given to those pursuing careers in primary agriculture or aquaculture, and to applicants connected with BCAC member associations.

Rebecca Senicar, chair of the BC Young Farmers Committee, said the program is designed to invest in the future of the province’s agriculture sector.

“We know the future of our sector depends on passionate, skilled individuals,” Senicar said. “This program is one way we can help remove barriers and invest directly in the next generation of leaders.”

The recipient will be recognized at the upcoming BC Agriculture Forum.

BCAC president Jennifer Woike said supporting young farmers is essential to strengthening the province’s food production system.

“Supporting young farmers through initiatives like this scholarship is critical to addressing workforce challenges while strengthening the future of farming in our province,” Woike said.

Applications are open until April 7, 2026, with details available at bcac.ca/scholarship.
