(Rural Roots Canada) – How often do you hear a machinery salesperson say their tractors have been designed with Canadian winters in mind? Kubota can confidently say they do. It’s a company that has determined exactly what Canadians need and has put its machines to the test against the often harsh Canadian climate.

Its latest examples are its M6 & M7 tractor series; machines designed to handle everything from haying to tillage to livestock chores and snow removal.

For Kyle Dabrowski, product manager for utility and agricultural tractors at Kubota Canada, the development process starts with one key principle: listening to farmers.

“My job is going out and understanding the market trends, talking to customers and potential customers, realizing what they want and bringing that information back to the factory,” says Dabrowski.

Built with farmers in mind

One of Kubota’s defining approaches is integrating high-value features as standard rather than optional add-ons.

“I think what Kubota really does well is we include a lot of value-added features in our base level of the tractor,” says Dabrowski. “You’re not necessarily needing to option up to get those valuable features.”

This philosophy applies across performance, hydraulics, operator comfort, and technology, ensuring farmers get a fully capable machine right from the start.

One of those features is the new loader joystick.

Front loader work is made easier with a new mechanical control joystick designed for comfort and ease of use. Built-in shuttle shift and range gear buttons keep key controls within reach, reducing the need to move your hands between the joystick, steering wheel, and shift lever.

A second feature that jumps off the page is high-performance transmission options.

The Kubota M7 Series offers two transmission choices to suit different operating needs. The 30×15 (6-speed, 5-range) Semi-Powershift is a fully electronically controlled system with 30 forward and 15 reverse speeds, ensuring the right gear is always available for the task at hand. For operators looking for maximum flexibility, the Premium KVT (Kubota Variable Transmission) delivers a continuously variable drive with an infinite range of speeds, allowing for smooth, precise adjustments to match the ideal working conditions.

Designed for Canadian conditions

As mentioned, what sets Kubota’s M6 and M7 tractors apart is their performance in extreme climates. The company conducts rigorous cold-weather testing in Canada to ensure reliability in harsh winter conditions.

“We actually have a minus 35 degrees Celsius testing facility, where we’re making sure that the units can run, start in, keep operational and get good defrosting performance,” Dabrowski explains.

That focus is especially critical for operations that rely on tractors year-round, including livestock feeding and snow removal.

“When the operator comes in, you want it to be able to start without any issues,” he adds, pointing to strong cold-start performance and dependable HVAC systems as key advantages.

Hydraulic power and control

Both the M6 and M7 are engineered to handle a wide range of implements, but each series offers distinct hydraulic capabilities tailored to different needs.

“With the M6, it’s open center hydraulic system with up to 20.4 gallons per minute, and you can option up to four different remotes,” says Dabrowski.

The M7 steps up performance with a closed-center system and greater flow.

“Moving over to the M7, it’s a closed center or CCLS hydraulic system, 29 gallons per minute,” he says, adding that premium models feature electronically controlled valves with customizable settings.

This level of control allows operators to fine-tune performance for specific implements and applications.

Versatility across farm operations

From haying to row crops and tillage, both tractor series are designed for multi-purpose use.

“When it comes to haying, loader work is going to be a big part of that. So, our tractors all come loader-ready.”

Kubota’s multifunction joystick integrates transmission controls directly into loader operations, improving efficiency.

“You can fully control the transmission while keeping one hand on the loader joystick and one hand on the steering wheel,” he says.

For row crop producers, guidance technology plays a growing role in productivity.

“Reducing overlap, it’s going to make you more productive in the field and also reduce your input cost,” Dabrowski says of auto steer systems available on the M7 and compatible options for the M6.

Meanwhile, features like headland management and auto-shift further streamline field operations, allowing operators to focus on efficiency and precision. The headland management system, through the K-Monitor, enables automatic, customizable control of hydraulic, PTO and transmission actions.

A strong fit for livestock operations

Livestock producers also benefit from the flexibility of the M6 and M7, particularly when it comes to loader work and maneuverability.

“Having a wide range of options is definitely something that’s appreciated by a livestock farmer,” says Dabrowski, referencing attachments like grapple buckets, bale spears and pallet forks.

Visibility is another key advantage in tight working environments.

“Both the M6 and M7 have a four-post cab design, lots of glass, not a lot of obstructions,” he notes.

A high-visibility roof panel and premium features like front and rear wipers, window defoggers, a rear window defroster, and the option for heated mirrors with power adjustment add to the panoramic views and optimal visibility year-round, no matter the conditions.

Combined with strong lighting systems, these features help operators work safely and efficiently from early morning to late at night.

Comfort for long days in the cab.

While power and performance are critical, operator comfort is also a priority for Kubota, an increasingly important design element for those long workdays

“These operators are commonly working eight hours a day, you want to make sure that it’s a comfortable experience,” says Dabrowski.

Spacious cabs, flat floors and ergonomic seating all contribute to reducing fatigue, while climate control systems ensure comfort in both extreme heat and cold.

Technology that’s easy to use

As precision agriculture continues to evolve, Kubota is focusing on making technology accessible to all operators through ease of use.

“Generally speaking, auto steer is pretty intuitive; there’s not a lot of learning curve.”

New solutions, like the WorkSmart Autosteer kit, further simplify adoption by allowing operators to use their own mobile devices and familiar mapping tools.

A tractor built for today’s farm

From advanced hydraulics and intuitive controls to year-round reliability and operator comfort, Kubota’s M6 and M7 tractors are designed to meet the diverse needs of modern farms.

By combining farmer-driven design with practical innovation, Kubota continues to position these tractors as versatile, dependable tools for operations across Canada and beyond.
