A hot button topic in Canadian agriculture is set to be addressed at FarmTech in Edmonton on Thursday.
The Alberta Seed Growers’ Association in partnership with the Alberta Wheat Commission and Alberta Barley Commission will be hosting a panel discussion on value creation.
Half of the meeting, which begins at 10:15 a.m. (MST), will be a presentation from the panel, while the second half will be a question and answer session.
The panel will include Holly Mayer, Senior Advisor with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; Anthony Parker, Commissioner with Canadian Food Inspection Agency; Ward Oatway, President of Alberta Seed Growers and Secan’s Western Business Manager Todd Hyra.
It will be broadcast live on the Alberta Seed Growers’ Association and Alberta Wheat Commission websites.
Kelly Chambers is the Executive Director of ASGA.
She says there has been a lot of misinformation on this topic.
“A lot of it is in social media, so if we get good information to farmers, then they can make educated decisions about the future and that’s the important part, we want them to make educated decisions about the future of farming,” says Chambers.
She adds the discussion is all about making sure farmers have good choices and excellent genetics to work with.
Chambers says this panel will be backing up from some of the initial information that was provided and will start by explaining the importance of value creation and then go on to what they have heard from farmers so far.
“What do farmers need to know to make an informed decision.”
