Alberta (Rural Roots Canada) – There have been no new suspect cases of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) reported to the Chief Veterinarian of Alberta as of March 2, 2026, according to Alberta Pork.
In a release, Alberta Pork says that as of February 27, 2026, all environmental samples collected from identified high-traffic sites have tested negative.
“This is encouraging news and reflects the diligence of producers and industry partners in maintaining strong biosecurity practices,” it says.

Alberta Pork is reminding producers to maintain strict biosecurity measures. It says consistent protocols for controlled access, effective cleaning and disinfection, and careful monitoring of animal movements are critical to reducing the risk of PEDv.
It adds that despite no new cases, continued attention to on-farm and transportation biosecurity helps protect individual operations and the broader provincial herd.
Last month, a case of PEDv was confirmed on a farm in Southern Alberta. It was the province’s first case since 2022. The investigation remains ongoing.
