Alberta (Rural Roots Canada) – Alberta’s 2026 harvest is nearing completion, with 88 per cent of major crops now off the field, according to its most recent report.
Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Tara Sawyer says despite delays over the last several weeks for various reasons, producers have made significant progress.
“While slow maturity and periods of rain early in the harvest season and recent frost and snow have slowed work in some areas, producers continue to make the most of every opportunity to get crops off the field,” said Sawyer in a release. “I applaud the perseverance, patience and hard work of farmers despite the circumstances with this growing season.”

Despite weather challenges, crop yields are estimated to be above average, especially in the south and central regions, according to Sawyer. She also points to positive signs heading into winter, with surface and sub-surface soil moisture levels above historical averages, strong pasture conditions and fall-seeded crops off to a good start.
“Farmers and producers across Alberta continue to show the dedication and determination that keeps our agriculture sector strong,” Sawyer added. “Whether you’ve wrapped things up or you’re still in the field, I thank Alberta’s farmers for everything you do to feed Albertans, support your communities and help grow our province.”
