Calgary (Rural Roots Canada) – The Canadian Cattle Association has announced Andrea Brocklebank as its new Chief Executive Officer, with the transition set to take place in early March.

Brocklebank currently serves as Executive Director of the Beef Cattle Research Council, a role she has held since 2009. She has been part of the Canadian Cattle Association since 2004, working across research, funding, and knowledge transfer within the beef sector.

CCA President Tyler Fulton says Brocklebank’s leadership experience and collaborative approach will be important as the organization navigates continued global market uncertainty, including work toward renewing the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement.

The CEO title is a new designation for the Canadian Cattle Association and reflects changes made as the organization prepares for the retirement of Executive Vice President Dennis Laycraft. Fulton says the updated role more accurately reflects the responsibilities of senior leadership at CCA.

As part of the transition, Tracy Herbert has been appointed Interim Executive Director effective March 1. Herbert has led knowledge mobilization efforts at the Beef Cattle Research Council since joining the organization in 2011. Laycraft will continue in his role until the leadership change takes place in March.

Brocklebank holds a Bachelor of Arts in agricultural studies from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Science in agricultural economics from the University of Saskatchewan. She was raised on a farm in southern Alberta, which she now operates with her husband, and previously worked in the cattle feeding sector and agricultural finance.
