Calgary (Rural Roots Canada) – Ashley Nicholls from Reach Agricultural Strategies will lead a compelling workshop at the 2025 Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference (AWC). The workshop will focus on Low-Stress People Handling and the importance of effective communication on the farm.
The workshop, “Not That Gate, The Other Gate!” What Our Livestock Can Teach Us About Effective Communication” will explore how handling livestock can offer valuable lessons in teamwork and clear communication.
“I think that it really fits, especially in the women’s space in agriculture. There’s a huge amount of development, and the future is definitely female when it comes to ag in many different sectors, including the industry sector and a lot of the management that we’re seeing now in Ag is women. So I think it’s a really important time to chat about communication,” said Nicholls.

Using real-life farm scenarios, such as directing livestock and closing gates, Nichols will demonstrate how these everyday challenges highlight the need for precise communication to reduce stress and improve collaboration.
The workshop is part of the 2025 Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference, which will be held in Calgary from March 16 to 18. Registration is now open, and more details on the speakers can be found at advancingwomenconference.ca.
