Prairie Weather (Rural Roots Canada) – A large storm in western Saskatchewan on August 13 caused widespread damage to growing crops, according to the Canadian Crop Hail Association. At the same time, Alberta and Manitoba saw limited hail damage from isolated storms.
In all, CCHA member companies are investigating 676 claims of crop damage from storms that occurred August 10-16.
“While there have been reports of heavy losses, I wouldn’t say that anything out of the ordinary has occurred for this time of year,” said Rodney Schoettler, Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance.
Companies contributing to this report are AG Direct Hail Insurance, Agriculture Financial Services Corporation, Co-operative Hail Insurance Company, Palliser Insurance Company, Rain and Hail Insurance Services, and Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance.
