Red Deer (Rural Roots Canada) – A newly announced state-of-the-art flour mill in the Red Deer area will source 230,000 metric tonnes of locally grown wheat each year once completed.
The P&H Milling Group, a division of Parrish & Heimbecker, announced the $241-million facility during a sod-turning event in Red Deer County on Friday.
John Heimbecker, CEO of Parrish & Heimbecker, says the high-quality wheat that farmers around Central Alberta produce will be processed locally, adding Red County was the perfect location for the facility.
“The area is also a prime location for us to bring in grains through our existing Grain Asset Network,” said Heimbecker in a statement.
The mill also means great things for consumers, processing 750 metric tonnes of wheat daily.
“The added boost to our milling capacity will help us supply Canadian flour to the province and beyond.”
It will serve a variety of end-use customers, including commercial bakers, retail bakers, large bakery wholesalers, and major pizza commissaries.
The flour will also contribute to exports to B.C. and the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
“This new facility not only strengthens our position in the Canadian milling industry but also boosts Alberta’s baking industry by supplying high-quality flour to a diverse range of customers.”
The flour mill is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2026 and is expected to create 200 jobs during construction and 27 full-time positions once it is operational.
