Calgary (Rural Roots Canada) – Harvest delays, unpredictable weather and opportunities for young people in agriculture are in the spotlight on this edition of the Rural Roots Canada podcast.

RRC meteorologist David Spence joins Craig Lester to break down a wet September across the Prairies and what it has meant for harvest progress. They look at areas that have received significant rainfall, why conditions have varied so much across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and what farmers can expect as frost, rain and even the possibility of snow enter the forecast.

Then, Craig speaks with Saskatchewan 4-H members Kierra Hawreluik and Amy Fradette, recipients of the Art & Shirley Froehlich Travel
and Youth Development Bursary.

The two longtime 4-H members share how the program has helped shape their lives and the opportunities their bursaries will provide. Hawreliuk is heading to Fort Worth to learn more about the cattle industry and connect with industry professionals, while Fradette is travelling to Illinois for a canine-focused conference as she works toward a future career in specialized dog training.

It’s a conversation about challenging harvest conditions, learning beyond the farm gate and taking advantage of opportunities to build the future.
