Peace River, BC (Rural Roots Canada) – The Peace River Forage Association of British Columbia is helping producers prepare for wildfire season with a pair of wildfire schools taking place north of Fort St. John later this month.

The training sessions will be held at the Thiessen Bros Ranch on Aitken Creek Road on May 28 and 29, followed by another session at the Rose Prairie Community Hall on May 30 and 31.

The goal of the schools is to teach producers how to safely respond to wildfires while protecting their operations, infrastructure and assets.

Northern FireWoRx will deliver the training and provide certification in the S-100, S-185, and I-100 courses, which are required under BC Wildfire Service standards.

The courses focus on wildfire suppression techniques, safety procedures and entrapment avoidance during wildfires.

Participants will spend the first day in classroom training, while the second day will include both classroom and field components. Written, oral and field exams will also be completed during the program.

Anyone attending either workshop will also have the opportunity to take part in a hands-on learning and burn session scheduled for June 1.
