Alberta and Saskatchewan goat producers are teaming up for the Border City Goat Show.
The Alberta Goat Association (AGA) and Saskatchewan Goat Breeders Association (SGBA) are co-hosting the joint provincial event, happening July 10 and 11 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. It’s an event that Mallory Kaiser, the president of the AGA, believes will elevate the goat industry’s profile in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the country, while helping educate the public about the animal.
“A lot of people see cute goats in pyjamas on TikTok, or whatever,” she says. “This show gives them the opportunity to see the breeds, understand what the differences are, and get to talk to those producers and learn more about the animal and the industry.”

Lloydminster was chosen for its border-straddling location, allowing the two associations to reach a larger audience. “We approached them about co-hosting a show, where we would help with the meat side of the industry, and they would focus on the dairy side, or whatever mix they wanted to do,” says Kaiser. “We decided, as two provinces coming together, it would give us more resources and more bodies to run such a big show.”
If you’ve never been to a goat show, Kaiser says it’s a fun and educational experience.
“It gives people a chance to learn about the differences between the size of the animals, much like a beef and dairy cattle show,” she explains. “It’s a great opportunity to see various goat breeds, an understanding between the dairy and meat side of the goat industry, and for producers, it allows them to advertise and promote themselves to other producers and educate the public about why goat meat or dairy is important to them.”
Kaiser is confident the show will further help grow a strong, stable and profitable future for the goat industry and its producers in the provinces, by focusing on education, advocacy, and industry development to ensure the industry continues to thrive.
