
Stuart McGregor, Vice President of Commercial Business of Alltech Canada, acknowledges that there’s no simple answer to the question.
“The issue is not black and white,” says McGregor. “This initiative allows us to start meaningful conversations. It provides a platform for educating people, particularly those who may have been distanced from farm life—whether second, third, or fourth-generation farmers—or those who have moved away from agriculture altogether. It helps them understand the critical role of animal farming, not just in Canada but globally.”

The project was launched three years ago by Alltech President and CEO, Dr. Mark Lyons, with the goal of fostering open conversations about the importance of sustainable animal agriculture.
McGregor points out that the documentary also offers an opportunity to showcase the positive contributions of the industry, helping to shift the narrative and engage people in constructive discussions.
“It’s an incredible platform to share the great work we’re doing and initiate positive dialogue on a global scale.” says McGregor.
The documentary also underscores the role of cattle in sustainable food systems, with many experts arguing that the conversation should focus on solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of livestock production, rather than eliminating cows altogether.
By answering the question of what a world without cows might look like, World Without Cows invites audiences to reflect on the broader implications of livestock production. It is a thought-provoking exploration of a vital and often overlooked industry, one that plays a crucial role in the global food system, economic stability, and environmental challenges.
