Medicine Hat (Rural Roots Canada) Medicine Hat College is making strides in agricultural education, with new, innovative programs designed to meet the needs of seasoned producers and the next generation of agribusiness professionals.

“We’ve developed an agribusiness certificate within our Continuing Studies Department, and this is a certificate that offers programming in business, within technology and data analytics, within management and finance, all geared towards agriculture,” says Morgan Blair, Dean of Business and Continuing Studies and Trades and Technology at Medicine Hat College.

Blair says other programs are also addressing practical skills and diversification in agriculture.

“We’re also moving into agrotourism,” she explains. “We’ve got an agrotourism credential through continuing studies that help producers diversify their revenue streams. And we’re doing welding for agriculture as well. So, it’s basic quick fixes. Bring us your junk metal, and we will see how you can fix things in the field. It will teach you how to weld properly.”
