Medicine Hat (Rural Roots Canada) – The Centre for Innovation at Medicine Hat College, which is now in its second year, is expanding into agricultural research.

C4i Manager Chelsey Ehresman says it’s all possible because of the funding they received this year.

“Okay, so the Center for Innovation is one space where we had some great news. Over the summer, we received a five-year grant from NSERC, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada,” Ehresman says, adding that’s going to allow us to hire some staff and build some capacity to do applied projects in agriculture at Medicine Hat College.

Ehresman says they have received a lot of support for the initiative.

“So the Center for Innovation has been open for two years, but we’ve started talking to the community for about the last three years to start offering more programming and services.”

Ehresman envisions the college as a hub for agricultural projects in five years, working closely with the industry and producers in the region.
