Whitehorse (Rural Roots Canada) – 75 Years of producing travelling scholars and leaders in the agriculture community.

Nuffield Canada celebrated the big milestone in June by touring farms and agriculture businesses in the Yukon, with the summer solstice serving as the backdrop for the event.

Chair Steve Larocque says it’s an amazing accomplishment—and it was a great place to celebrate it.

“What better place than the Yukon on the solstice. It was fantastic,” says Larocque

Nuffield Canada offers transformative scholarships to individuals in agriculture, food, and business, enabling them to expand their knowledge and understanding of the agricultural sector through international travel, research, and collaboration. The scholarships offer a unique opportunity for recipients to explore innovative ideas, practices, and policies to help drive progress in Canadian agriculture.

Larocque says the scholars who come out of the program are changing what they are doing and changing agriculture.

“All of a sudden, when you’re just immersed in great conversations, looking at other people’s challenges, really getting away from your own day-to-day and your own challenges, it just transforms you.”

Larocque notes that Nuffield has positively impacted the lives of many people during this time.

“It unlocks this next level in their life that they didn’t know they had.”

Tours during the 75th celebrations included grain, egg, livestock, and agri-food processing operations, as well as agri-tourism and research facilities. All of them are discussing the opportunities and challenges that come with living and working in the agri-food industry in the north.
