Ottawa (Rural Roots Canada) – With the federal election in the rearview mirror, agricultural groups across the country are letting the minority Liberal Government know what they need immediately and in the coming months.
Several of them issued statements in the last week.
Alberta Grains is calling for stronger diplomatic efforts to eliminate trade barriers, including recent tariff threats from the U.S., and is asking Ottawa to prioritize federal investments in research and innovation.

The pulse sector also pressed for urgent action, highlighting ongoing tariffs on Canadian peas imposed by China as a key issue affecting growers and exporters nationwide, the need for regulatory reform to unlock the sector’s full potential.
In a statement, Pulse Canada Chair Terry Youwza says there is a growing consensus that Canada must ‘get out of its own way’ and create a legislative and regulatory environment that fosters investment, innovation, and growth.
The Grain Growers of Canada echoed these sentiments urging it to act swiftly to reverse recent changes to capital gains taxes and resolve tariff issues with both the U.S. and China.tariff issues with both the U.S. and China.
Just prior to election day, the Canadian Canola Growers Association set out a roadmap for the winning party to strengthen business risk management programs, secure access to markets & rules-based trade, invest in reliable rail and port infrastructure, amongst other things.
